Glasgow & South Western Railway Association Archive Open Day at Kilmarnock

Written by Stuart Rankin:

We held a successful Open Day for the middle 5 hours 1000 - 1500 and about 20 members and friends attended for varying times.  We spilled on to the sunny platform to set up our display boards and moved a table and chairs out for tea and coffee.

The platform hanging sign, blown down in a gale, had been re-hung.

One of the photographs includes Mrs. Andrea Strachan, owner of the static model of Smellie 4-4-0 No. 128 which will be the subject of an article in Sou'West Journal No. 49.

The lit display case in the other photo was funded by Kilmarnock Station Railway Heritage Trust and assembled by two of the trustees.  At last, we have a safe place to display exhibits, either previously the property of our Association or recently donated or loaned.  This enhances our image and helps to show the many facets of the railway; and exhibits can be rotated using a lockable cabinet for storage.  Captions are provided for each item.
